Step Into the Mist

This is a wooden walkway along a trail in the Kirishima mountain range of Japan.  The trail we hiked was along a ridge that traversed several mountain peaks in an area with many extinct volcanoes (and a few still active).  After traversing the first and highest peak, Karakuni-dake, we passed just one person ascending in the opposite direction, and then did not see another person for the entire rest of the hike, which was several hours.  There were many deer in this area, though, and hearing them bark into the mist was a wondrous if slightly eerie experience.
